Notebook used by Leichhardt to enter, under various natural history headings, observations, extracts from books read, and remarks made by others especially by the Rev. W.B. Clarke. Notes are in German, English and French. Leichhardt later used the blank pages to make copies of letters sent, 8 Sept. 1846-17 Oct. 1847, and undated (pages 46-56, 191-193, 195-204). Correspondents include W.B. Clarke, Daniel Bunce, John Roper and William Westgarth. The notebook includes a draft of Leichhardt's lectures to the Sydney School of Arts, 18 and 25 Aug. 1846, on his Port Essington expedition. It also includes the manuscript of his 'Beitrage zur Geologie von Australien' (pages 235-248, 252-262, 282-298, 302-330). |
